5 Things to do in Toronto by YOURSELF
Updated: Apr 13, 2018
I find that one of the reasons people don't go places is their fear of going out alone.
This is a problem for numerous reasons.
First off, if you're anything like me then you only have a handful of friends that you usually go out with. The thing is, your friends have their own lives and they aren't always available to go out. So, this leaves you at home with a bag of popcorn and chocolate covered almonds on Netflix binge watching Grey's Anatomy... For the FOURTH time!
Second, your friends want to do something that requires spending half of your paycheque and you don't have the funds for it because your paying for things like rent, your phone bills and trying to pay off your credit card bill.
Going out by yourself does NOT make you a loner. It doesn't mean you don't have friends or that your unliked or that nobody wants to hang out with you. It means that you should take this opportunity to go out by yourself. Also, there are places in the city that you can go to by yourself for low costs.
With school, work, relationships and other priorities, life can become very stressful. It is important to take the time for yourself sometimes.
When people choose not to go out because they don't have anyone to go with, they miss out on so many opportunities like meeting new people and discovering new things that make them happy. I just recently started to go places on my by myself. I started off going to the movies on Tuesdays then going to paint nites and eating at dessert places and to be honest, I actually really enjoyed it.
Lastly, another reason why people don't go out by themselves is because they don't know where to go. Where are places in the city that you can have fun without going with a group or a date? And how do you find these places?
Here are ideas of places in Toronto that you might enjoy going by yourself.
1. THE MOVIES
Yes the Movies! I know you're probably thinking why would I go to the movies when I can watch movies at home? Let me be clear. Watching Netflix at home and going out to the movies are not the same thing. Getting dressed up (or not, up to you) and leaving your home to go to the theatre is much more satisfying. the best thing about the movies is that there are various locations in Toronto.

The best thing about the movies is that there are various locations in Toronto. Going to the movies was the first outing I went alone. I went to Scarborough Town Centre on a Tuesday right after I had half-priced wings. I watched Pitch Perfect 3 and literally laughed my ass off. It was the best solo date ever. And if you want to make your date more fancy, go to VIP movies! It's more costly but you're actually getting VIP treatment. You order and get served right from your seat, never having to worry about getting up unless it's to go to the bathroom. In my opinion, the movie theatre is one of the best places to start your first solo outing.
2. PAINT NITE
Paint nite is actually a new thing I discovered. If you go on the website, you will find different painting sessions offered in the GTA at different restaurant locations. The best thing about this is that you don't even have to be good at painting. The instructors give you step by step instructions on how to create the painting. No one judges your art work and everyone's work, although the same picture, looks different. They provide you with paint, brushes and a canvas. It is very relaxing, oh and the best part of it all is that you get drinks! Yes, alcoholic beverages are served (not free) to you before, during and after you paint. Unfortunately, because of this, you do have to be 18 and over to sign up for classes. Paint Nites range 30-50 dollars. If you're a little low on cash, they're are plenty of ways that you can get discounts. Also, if you search in the right places, there are places that offer painting nights for free.

3. KENSINGTON MARKET
If you love trying new food, walking around and learning about different cultures than Kensington Market is the place for you! Kesingon Market is a neighbourhood where you can find shops, restaurants and tons of beautiful graffiti and other attractions. The food markets are every foodlover's dream and the art is perfect for outdoor photo shoots. What's also cool about Kensington is that is has HotBox, which is a cafe where people can vape and smoke marijuana for five dollars only. It 's the perfect bright and colourful place for you to visit when you're in need of escaping.
4. COMEDY BAR/CLUB
Love to laugh? I know I do! That's what comedy bars were made for. It's the perfect place to go when you want to sit down relax and hear some good jokes. It's the best place to meet people too, just look their way when laughing at a joke and find your new best friend. Just keep in mind that you shouldn't sit in the front row if you don't want to be picked on in front of everyone by the comedian. Some of them can be pretty vicious. But if you don't mind people laughing at your expense, then go for it. After all, jokes make good stories. There are many comedy bars downtown, just look some up and
5.YOGA IN THE PARK
Yoga in the Park! There are so many health and fitness benefits to doing yoga. There are various yoga sessions that take place across the city. Obviously these sessions take place in the summer. The sessions are free to about 20 dollars. Most actually just ask for donations of what you're able to give. No experience needed, though you will need to bring your own yoga mat. And again, it's another way to meet people and make some new friends. You never know, You may just find yourself a new yoga partner.
Well Folks, there you have it. A few thing to do in Toronto when you just want to have some time for yourself or when your friends are all busy and you're tired of staying home alone.
